Trinity International University announced that its undergraduate programs will move to an exclusively online modality, effective at the end of the 2023 Spring Semester. The College will cease traditional, face-to-face instruction enrollments at that time.

Individual Employee Plans & Notifications of Lay-off

Human Resources is here to assist and support you through this difficult transition and the process of these changes. Human Resources is looking into each employee’s individual circumstance and will be able to address questions for that specific employee, including benefits and retirement plan options.

TIU’s HR department is working to distribute email notices to all employees whose employment will be affected by this development by February 22, 2023, outlining their expected separation date from TIU, which will include a minimum 30-day notice of lay-off. Payroll

TIU will continue to process payroll according to the current bi-weekly payroll schedule. Final pay date information for staff will be forthcoming. For faculty members, the final pay date will be as stipulated in their contract.

Taxes

TIU will continue to process payroll and collect federal, state and FICA taxes as required from your bi-weekly payroll.

Medical Insurance

TIU strives to provide health benefits as long as possible. Most employees who are benefit-eligible will retain their current health coverage benefits through the month of May 2023 (or June 2023 for faculty). Employees who are eligible for additional benefits through COBRA will be provided with this information and the cost of this extended medical insurance.

Unemployment

TIU does not make decisions regarding unemployment benefits. If you apply, the University will comply with all state mandated reporting requirements.

Retirement Plan

Employee contributions to employee 403(b) accounts may continue through your

separation date. Specific information about what to do with retirement accounts upon separation can be discussed with Human Resources on an individual basis or you may contact your provider directly at www.GuideStoneFunds.org or calling 1-888-98-GUIDE (1-888-984-8433). We will have an agent on hand to discuss options in March of 2023.

The University provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Mutual of Omaha to help with the everyday challenges of life and the added stress that may affect your health and your family life. You and the members of your household are entitled to up to 5 consultations with a licensed clinician per incident, per individual, per calendar year. FAQ

I am a Trinity Florida adjunct professor; how do these changes affect the courses that I teach?

Courses at Trinity Florida will continue to be offered under the hybrid model. Students will still have the option of attending classes in-person or online.

When will I receive notification if I’m being laid off?

The President sent an email announcement to all employees on February 17, 2023, apprising them of the Board of Regents’s decision. TIU’s HR department is working to distribute email notices to all employees whose employment will be affected by this development by February 22, 2023, outlining their expected separation date from TIU, which will include a minimum 60-day notice of lay-off. What about health benefits?

TIU strives to provide health benefits as long as possible. Most employees who are benefit-eligible will retain their current health coverage benefits through the month of May 2023. The University is negotiating additional months of health coverage benefits, but are unable to provide exact information at the time of this posting. Human Resources will provide an update to employees if TIU is able to provide additional months of health coverage benefits.

Will I be eligible for COBRA health coverage

Employees who are eligible for and additional benefits through COBRA will be provided with this information and the cost of this extended medical insurance.

What happens to my accrued vacation time

Upon separation of employment from the University, employees who have accrued vacation time will receive a payout of their accrued vacation hours in a separate pay following their final paycheck.

What about Tuition Waiver benefits?

Tuition waiver benefits will continue for all eligible employees and their dependents who are degree-seeking students at the College through the spring 2023 term, after which TIU will no longer be offering traditional, face-to-face instruction. The same tuition waiver benefits will continue for all eligible employees and their dependents who are degree-seeking students in the online College programs.

How will I access my W2 information or pay stubs?

It is encouraged that you login in to ADP WorkforceNow to download and save on a personal storage device W2 tax forms and/or pay stub information. W2s for the 2023 tax year will be mailed out by January 31, 2024.

Can I keep my computer due to my role transition?

Employees will be allowed to keep their computer. IT will need to sign off that your computer has all TIU property or software removed. Please reach out to ithelpdesk@tiu.edu to make an appointment to have your computer reviewed. 

When will access to my email be turned off?

For those employees separated from the University access will be removed once you have completed the tasks related to your employment.

What about Tuition Exchange?

At this time, we plan to continue with the tuition exchange programs in which we participate.  If this changes, we will contact all impacted families.

How is my retirement account affected

Am I qualified to receive unemployment benefits?

TIU does not make decisions regarding unemployment benefits. If you apply, the University is required to answer all questions.This is a topic you may discuss during your individual meeting with the Director of Human Resources.
